World Book Day – St Giles Academy

  • 8 March 2022

To celebrate World Book Day, all of the children were invited to come to school dressed as a storybook character. The children were full of excitement as they came into school and saw their friends and teachers dressed up. Upper Key Stage 2 dressed in characters from the story “Holes” by Louis Sachar. Year 6 really loved the story when they studied it in English so we had characters such as the evil warden, the inmates and even the yellow lizard!

We had a range of characters from Mary Poppins, Horrid Henry, Harry Potter, dinosaurs, princesses, skeletons and even some ice-hockey players!

As part of our effort to create a legacy of readers, all the children chose a new book from a selection as well as receiving their world book day voucher.

It didn’t stop there, Year 1 linked their maths to a challenge to finding a book title and all the children took part in book-related activities in the afternoon. The children were so keen to read their new books, it was lovely to see.
