All children at Woodlands Academy celebrated Holi, the Festival of Colour, with the Hindu members of our community. We enjoyed taking part in Diya painting workshops, and created some beautiful pieces. The visitor running the workshops was overwhelmed with the positive behaviour and attitudes of our children and said that, at Woodlands Academy, she âencountered the most well-behaved, courteous, friendly and well mannered childrenâ. We could not be more proud that an external visitor recognised what we know to be true.
This week is skills builder week and we are focusing on the skills of listening, speaking, aiming high and staying positive. We had a special visit from Sargeant Sutcliffe, who answered all the questions we asked, to help us learn about the role of a police officer. The children have been investigating a crime scene in our classroom. They have been using their police knowledge to find clues to decide which suspect is the sugar snatcher that ate Granny Flora’s chocolates!
On the 9th December the children of Healing Primary came together for a special Christingle service. Each pupil had made their own Christingle which they brought to the assembly. We were wowed by a performance from the steel pans group, entertained by the choir and delighted by Rev. Mark’s magic tricks. It was a fantastic way to learn about the true meaning of Christmas.

Author Visit    21st September 2022
We had a very special visitor at William Barcroft Junior School this month; we welcomed Luke Temple the famous author! Our children had a fantastic time learning about his new book, âZombie Cows From Outer Spaceâ. He shared fascinating snippets from his short stories and other books in his spooky series including The Ghost Lord Returns and Ghost Post! Luke Temple returned back into school the following day with a selection of books on sale. They were so incredibly fantastic that ‘Zombie Cows’ had sold out within the first half an hour! The books were even signed and dedicated to the children which felt extra special. He’s inspired many of our children to write their own spooky stories and design their own villains!

This month saw student successâ being celebrated through the launch of âPraise Fridayâ which forms part of Harbour Learning Trustâs commitment to ensuring all children are successful and happy.
Teachers were asked to submit the names of the pupils who had worked exceptionally hard in their lesson or produced some particularly good work and they did not disappoint! 67 worthy pupils were put forward for nomination.
For their efforts, those nominated engaged with senior leaders, explaining their work and thought processes. Pupils were then rewarded with a âPraise Fridayâ certificate and a chocolate bar of their choice.
Acting Principal, Mrs Gunn said âWe would like to recognise and applaud the excellent academic achievements and efforts of our pupils of all levels and ability. This celebration of success aligns very much with the Trust value of âSuccess and happiness for every childâ. It is an excellent way for our teaching staff to acknowledge the great work our pupils do and we were delighted that so many pupils were put forward.”
Itâs cold, wet, icy and foggy therefore it must be Cross Country season. We unfortunately couldn’t attend the qualifying round for this yearâs Cross Country Championships but our PE dept were given the opportunity to nominate students to put forward for the District round; luckily our talented students didn’t have to miss out. After nominating Ellarose Whitworth for Junior Girls and Archie Wentworth for Under 13 they were able to attend and compete as part of the Lincoln and Gainsborough schools team. The students ran distances of 2,800m and 3,500m for the cross country at Burghley House on Saturday 15th January. The weekâs running up to the event saw both students putting in extra training and amazing effort during PE lessons to be the best and most prepared they could be. Ellarose trained during her lunch hour with Miss Dooley also. Brilliant commitment from both!
Ellarose and Archie went into the event with such a positive attitude and the will to win which was so inspiring for other students and our PE department. Archie competed first at 10am in the worst fog and very poor visibility but he smashed it and came second out of 70 students racing. Ellarose raced at 11:10am so had better visibility but now the course was muddy and slippery. She demonstrated to be a motivated and determined athlete leading the race from the very beginning and finishing in 1st position. Absolutely fantastic!
The aim was for both students to finish in the top 14 to qualify for the next round in Suffolk but by finishing in the top 6 means they automatically qualify for the Nationals which are held in Kent. This shows how resilient, determined and dedicated they are to their running, making their parents and our school very proud indeed. Well done to them both and see you in Kent!

Agenda
Just before we broke up last term for the summer break, Year 10 pupils took part in the North East Lincolnshire virtual skills fair.
Pupils were presented with 4 main areas to explore: An âExhibition roomâ, where pupils had direct access to speak with representatives of local and national businesses, colleges, universities and apprenticeship and training providers. On the âMain Stageâ a live video of information was streamed, while the other 2 areas promoted live apprenticeship vacancies and highlighted support available to young people, such as Kooth and Compass Go.
Employers exhibiting included: Orsted, Phillips 66, Engie, Navigo, Wilkin and Chapman, the NHS, Humberside police and representatives from the Army, RAF, Navy and Royal Marines. The event was hugely well received, with pupils engaging with providers and making the most of all the opportunities presented to them.
There were also 2 activities for pupils to take part in. One of them was a virtual âscavenger hunt.â We recently learned that Healing Year 11 pupil, Isabelle, was the winner of the hunt and received ÂŁ30 worth of Love to Shop vouchers for her efforts!
Isabelle was presented with her vouchers by Karen Linton, Strategic lead for Skills and Employability at North East Lincolnshire Council.
Isabelle said âI am so happy I won the vouchers. Iâm glad I took part in the virtual skills fair and I am looking forward to spending my vouchers over the half term break.
