Healing Primary have launched a ‘mystery reader;’ initiative. We have invited visitors from our families and local community to read a story to our classes. The identity of the reader is kept secret until they arrive. The children have been super excited to see their parents and grandparents revealed as the ‘mystery reader.’ Thank you to everyone who has volunteered so far.

Healing Primary’s Foundation Stage had a very special visit from a vet, a tortoise and two guinea pigs! 🐢👩🏼⚕️
Two children assisted Dr Buckland with operating on a dog patient that had accidentally eaten a toy car.
The children were then introduced to the tortoise and guinea pigs. Thank you, Dr Buckland!

We are so excited to announce that Healing Primary is now part of the Children’s University The Children’s University is a charity, which works in partnership with schools to develop a love of learning in children. They do this by encouraging and celebrating participation in extra-curricular activities in and outside of school.

Year 5 STEM workshop – 15th November
Elm Class had an excellent morning participating in a STEM workshop delivered by Lab Rascals and The Humber Gateway Wind Farm. They had to use their teamwork, design and problem solving skills to construct a lego wind turbine. In their teams, they then had to use a fan to turn the blades of the wind turbine to generate electricity. The children had to record how many joules of energy were produced.

Introducing our first ever Healing Primary girls football team!
Last week, Mr Greenwood and Mrs Taylor had the pleasure of taking these fabulous girls to our first ever girls football tournament after school.
We played lots of matches against other schools and we finished a very respectable 4th overall. Our biggest achievement on the night was receiving the ‘respect’ award from the host of the event who had noticed our impressive teamwork and respect amongst our team and towards the other teams.
Well done girls – we are really proud of you all!

SKILLS BUILDER GOLD AWARD
We are proud to announce that Healing Primary has achieved the Skills Builder Gold Award, in recognition for the work we do to teach the 8 essential skills: Listening, Speaking, Creativity, Problem Solving, Leadership, Teamwork, Staying Positive and Aiming High. The children enjoy learning about these skills and putting them in practice during class assemblies, projects and in the wider curriculum.

Healing Primary Academy had wonderful day learning all about different careers paths that our children could take. We were overwhelmed with support from members of our community who volunteered their time to tell us all about the roles, what skills and qualifications they use, and what they do on a day to day basis.
Children from William Barcroft Junior School also joined us for this valuable event, and left with lots of ideas and aspirations for the future. We can’t wait to see the successful professionals you all become.

Healing Primary have had a super few days taking part in the Great British Birdwatch, learning all about wild birds and how to look after them. We found out that we’ve lost 38 million birds from UK skies in the last 50 years, and we wanted to find out what we can do to help the situation.
This week, lots of bird feeders have been made and children have had great fun in hanging them up all around our school site. It has been fabulous to see how excited the children have been at playtimes, watching various birds flock to the feeders. We even made some feeders to send home so that we could continue this in our own gardens!
We would like to say a huge thank you to Mr Francis for coming in to help us with this; we loved hearing all of his bird-watching knowledge.

At Healing Primary Academy, we pride ourselves on being inclusive, empathetic and respectful. As such, we celebrated World Braille Day on 4th January by learning to read and write Braille. This was supported by one of our pupils who works in Braille; he delivered a wonderful virtual assembly to the whole school about Braille, and taught our pupils lots about life as a blind member of the community. We are incredibly proud of him and think he’s a credit to our school and community.

We are also incredibly proud of one of our Teaching Assistants, Mrs Wright. Mrs Wright has voluntarily spent over 200 hours of her own time learning to read and type Braille, in order to support the pupil she works with. She is now successfully qualified to Level 1 in Number Braille and Level Two in English Braille, which is an outstanding achievement.

This training is proving invaluable in supporting our pupil in all areas. It’s thanks to Mrs Wright’s dedication, determination and hard work that he is making accelerated progress towards all of his targets – academic and social. Mrs Wright is a credit to Harbour Learning Trust and a valued member of Team Healing Primary. Well done, Mrs Wright!
