To celebrate World Book Day, all of the children were invited to come to school dressed as a storybook character. The children were full of excitement as they came into school and saw their friends and teachers dressed up. Upper Key Stage 2 dressed in characters from the story “Holes” by Louis Sachar. Year 6 really loved the story when they studied it in English so we had characters such as the evil warden, the inmates and even the yellow lizard!

We had a range of characters from Mary Poppins, Horrid Henry, Harry Potter, dinosaurs, princesses, skeletons and even some ice-hockey players!

As part of our effort to create a legacy of readers, all the children chose a new book from a selection as well as receiving their world book day voucher.

It didn’t stop there, Year 1 linked their maths to a challenge to finding a book title and all the children took part in book-related activities in the afternoon. The children were so keen to read their new books, it was lovely to see.

St Giles Academy organised and delivered a Christmas Holiday Activity and Food club, funded by Lincolnshire County Council. For four days of the Christmas holidays, 60 children attended the 4 hour sessions, had new experiences, learnt new skills, had a hot meal and had lots of fun! On Monday Fudge and Co from Nottingham brought some exotic animals for the children to handle and learn about such as a skunk, a skink, a python, a tarantula and many more. On Tuesday, a dance group taught the children new dance moves. On Wednesday, a coach took the children to Priory Witham Academy where they had a fun swimming session and had a go at ice-skating! All the children had a great time! On Thursday, the Lincoln fun bus parked up on the playground and the children enjoyed a session of soft play!

In addition the children learnt how to make puff pastry Christmas trees with a yummy chocolate filling, potato salad, twice baked jacket potatoes and a  rainbow fruit kebab!

Each day the children had a hot  meal provided by Good Lookin’ Cookin’. They also did some crafty activities like making baubles, handprint wreaths and cotton wool snowmen.

The funding for HAF has been secured for the next three years so we will soon be planning our Easter HAF!

A huge thank you to all the staff who gave up some of their Christmas holidays and helped make the Christmas HAF a huge success!!
