Information Commissioner’s Office
The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) is the UK’s independent authority set up to uphold information rights in the public interest, promoting openness by public bodies and data privacy for individuals. Its website provides useful resources in relation to data protection, freedom of information, and privacy and electronic communications.
The ICO is responsible for enforcing data protection legislation and monitoring organisational compliance, and has the power to impose fines for non-compliance of up to €20 million or 4% annual global turnover, whichever is higher.
